Bangkok, Thailand
Pahurat (Bangkok’s Little India) holds a memory for me. Back in design school, my group was assigned to explore the area for a project. We visited many times with cameras but struggled to connect. I was too afraid to take photos and felt like people didn’t want to be seen. We stayed in our bubble and left feeling lost. The only real connection came from a nearby Sikh temple that welcomed us. In the end, our project became about feeling disconnected in our own country but welcomed by another culture.

I hadn’t been back until recently. I stopped for Indian sweets at the same shop where I once froze with fear. This time, I took photos. I felt more open, more present, just observing people go about their day. It felt like a quiet milestone.
